Totally been there, and I found something that really worked. Check out AVVA Experience's virtual murder mysteries for national and international audiences with various storylines https://avvaexperience.com/virtual/virtual-murder-mysteries/ . These aren't your average mystery games. Each team member gets a character and a piece of the puzzle, and everyone works together (or against each other) to figure it out. It adds just the right amount of competition and collaboration, and the storytelling keeps people laughing and fully engaged from start to finish.
